TIPS FOR STARTING ARTISTS
Say hi!
One of the biggest hurdles is figuring out how to get your foot in the door… and finding the door. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
A simple hello to an event or your favorite local artist with a question about where to apply for an event is a great start. Respectfully seeking tips makes connection and shares advice.
If applications are closed or spaces filled, you still showed interest and learned where to look next time.
Timing is important.
Events take a while to plan. Keep your eyes open for applications roughly 3-4 months before the event itself. Summer events generally start sharing deadlines for applications during the first few months of the year.
One of my first contacts: this month’s spotlight!
